Highly Trained Linemen
Outside Journeyman Linemen primarily install and maintain the overhead distribution and transmission lines that move electrical power from power plants to local consumers such as businesses, homes and factories. They also install and maintain poles and towers and underground systems.

Take The Test
IBEW 1002 Requirements:
Minimum of 10,000 hours experience in the trade. Accepted documentation of hours can be letters from previous employers, W2’s, check stubs or tax transcripts.
Your W2’s will be used to calculated hours by taking the gross income and dividing it by your hourly wage for that year. A check stub from each year is good but not required. If you can’t provide a check stub, then we divide your gross wage by the IBEW journeyman lineman rate for the jurisdiction you are taking the test in.
You cannot have been in an IBEW apprenticeship and dropped out. (wait period is 2 years passed their estimated top out date)
Working as a Journeyman Lineman for a minimum of one (1) year and including 1,000 hours of hot time.
Once hours are verified, Applicant must score 70% or above on the Pre-Evaluation Test. Applicants scoring less than 70% shall follow the Construction Lineman Memorandum.
Minimum of 30 days evaluation on the job in overhead distribution. Total time of evaluation shall be as needed to properly assess the skills of the potential Journeyman Lineman.
Continued education shall be provided by Southwest Line Constructors AJATC or the Local Union at the Business Managers discretion.
Upon acceptable evaluations from Foreman and/or Journeyman Lineman that have had direct supervision/observation of the applicant; the applicant shall be allowed to request the Journeyman Lineman exam per local union policy.
Any applicant that fails the field and/or written exam shall maintain their current classification. A “Blueprint” shall be created per the Construction Lineman Memorandum.
